MTN Group stock stood at ZAc 19,277 on the JSE on September 25, 2026, down 0.46 percent in early trading. The telecom group is also developing AI-ready data centers in South Africa and Nigeria with a Dubai-based infrastructure partner, according to Ground News.

AI infrastructure adds a new leg

The partnership initially targets South Africa and Nigeria and is linked to a planned network of AI-ready data centers with 150 megawatts of capacity. The reported investment value is USD 6 billion, giving MTN an infrastructure angle beyond mobile connectivity and data services.

That expansion matters because MTN already operates networks, fiber assets, data centers and cable infrastructure across its African markets. The AI project therefore extends an existing asset base rather than introducing a completely separate business line.

First-half growth sets the benchmark

MTN reported service revenue of ZAR 115.3 billion for the six months ended June 30, 2026, up 17.5 percent in constant-currency terms, on its investor website. EBITDA before once-off items reached ZAR 56 billion, an increase of 24.4 percent, according to MTN Group.

The operating comparison is important for the stock because EBITDA grew faster than service revenue during the same six-month period. MTN also said its mobile money platform processed USD 330 billion in transaction value in the first half, while the group launched a buyback of up to ZAR 6 billion for approximately 31 million ordinary shares, according to Tech Africa.

JSE price keeps the comparison open

On September 25, 2026, MTN Group had a market capitalization of ZAR 353,342,084,729 and a 52-week range of ZAc 13,316 to ZAc 53,780. The early-session price was therefore above the lower end of that range, while the daily decline remained 0.46 percent.

The numbers create two distinct benchmarks for investors. The operating benchmark is the 17.5 percent service-revenue increase, while the market benchmark is the JSE quote against its 52-week range and the group valuation.
