- Meritz Securities and Ripple will explore custody and tokenization infrastructure for Korea's regulated capital markets.
- The companies plan to begin within existing securities operations and widen cooperation as Korean digital asset rules develop.
- South Korean securities firms are competing for positions ahead of the planned February 2027 token securities framework.
Ripple said on October 14, 2026, that it had formed a strategic partnership with Meritz Securities to explore institutional custody and tokenization in Korea's capital markets. The announcement was carried by Ripple.
Partnership targets regulated expansion
The cooperation covers Ripple Custody and Ripple's tokenization infrastructure. The companies said they would start within Meritz Securities' existing securities business and current regulations, then broaden the work in stages as South Korea's digital asset framework develops.
Meritz is also considering related opportunities including spot exchange-traded funds, fractional investment, security tokens, trading platforms and Korean won-denominated stablecoins. The announcement describes an exploration phase rather than a product launch, leaving the commercial timetable dependent on regulation and execution.
Competition builds before STO rollout
South Korean securities firms are preparing for the planned February 2027 implementation of the token securities system. Aju Press reported on November 1 that larger firms such as Mirae Asset Securities, Korea Investment & Securities and KB Securities were building alliances or dedicated infrastructure, while Meritz was pursuing connections with Ripple and the Canton Foundation. That positions Meritz within the institutional partnership route rather than the independent-platform approach described for some larger rivals.
Meritz Securities business profile
Meritz Securities is a South Korean securities firm with capital-markets capabilities and an existing securities business. Its digital-asset plans extend that base toward custody, tokenization and other regulated investment services. In the emerging token securities market, it is competing with Mirae Asset Securities, Korea Investment & Securities and KB Securities, which are also preparing infrastructure or alliances. Meritz's approach is more partnership-led in the sources reviewed, while those larger peers are described as pursuing broader independent or alliance-based networks.
