Largo's strategy to supply the growing market for long-duration power storage is attracting attention, but the investment case still needs measurable proof. In an analysis dated October 25, Tantalum Strategy said Largo is positioning vanadium flow batteries for AI data centers while noting that neither Largo nor its battery affiliate had disclosed a data-center deployment. The analysis is available from Tantalum Strategy.
The battery opportunity remains unquantified
Largo's battery activities run through Storion Energy, a joint venture with Stryten Energy. Tantalum Strategy reported that Storion has marketed flow-battery applications for data centers, but that no specific data-center deployment had been published. The analysis also noted that the only sized project cited on Storion's news page was a 9.6 megawatt, 48 megawatt-hour installation in Texas that was not described as a data center.
That distinction matters for investors. A broad demand statement does not establish contracted revenue, installed capacity or a timetable for Largo's vanadium products. The potential market is therefore still an option rather than a disclosed operating stream.
Production and financing are central variables
Largo operates the Maracas Menchen vanadium mine in Bahia, Brazil. According to the analysis, the company produced 2,900 tons of vanadium pentoxide equivalent in the second quarter of 2026 and said in September that it expected monthly production of about 876 tons, the low end of its guidance. It also planned to raise the share of high-purity vanadium in its output.
Financing remains a separate constraint. Tantalum Strategy reported that Largo had been working to extend bank debt and had raised USD 5.7 million in a September share and warrant offering for working capital, including payments to trade creditors. Investors will therefore need to weigh the battery opportunity against liquidity needs and the execution of debt agreements.
