- Korean Air posted its highest quarterly revenue in the third quarter, supported by passenger and cargo demand.
- Higher fuel costs limited the benefit to profitability, while the airline is preparing for its planned December integration with Asiana Airlines.
- Management expects fourth-quarter fuel pressure to persist and plans to focus on inbound traffic, transit demand and flexible cargo capacity.
Korean Air reported record third-quarter revenue of KRW 5.0448 trillion on October 15, 2026, according to Aero Crew News. The preliminary, non-consolidated result marked a 26 percent increase from the same quarter a year earlier, while operating profit rose 12 percent to KRW 421.2 billion.
Demand supports record revenue
Passenger revenue increased by KRW 496.3 billion year over year to KRW 2.9174 trillion. Strong inbound and transit traffic through Incheon, along with additional capacity on routes to the Americas and Japan, offset softer outbound demand from South Korea.
Cargo revenue reached KRW 1.4323 trillion, up KRW 365.6 billion from the prior-year quarter. Demand for high-value artificial intelligence and semiconductor components supported the cargo business and helped Korean Air adjust capacity toward stronger regional markets.
Fuel costs remain the key risk
Fuel expenses remain the main pressure on margins. Korean Air said the burden is expected to continue into the fourth quarter as geopolitical tensions keep energy costs elevated. The airline plans to emphasize inbound and transit passengers and use flexible cargo capacity during the year-end peak.
Net income rose sharply to KRW 929.7 billion in the quarter, compared with KRW 91.9 billion a year earlier. The company attributed part of the increase to favorable foreign-exchange translation effects, making the bottom-line gain less representative of recurring operating performance than the revenue and operating-profit figures.
Business profile and competition
Korean Air is a South Korean airline group focused on passenger travel and air freight, with additional aerospace activities and aircraft maintenance. Its network is centered on Incheon and spans domestic and international routes, while its cargo operation has exposure to technology-related freight.
The company is positioned as a large transpacific network carrier rather than a niche operator. Delta Air Lines is a named transpacific joint-venture partner, while Asiana Airlines is the airline Korean Air is preparing to integrate; the combination is intended to expand the group network and operating platform.
Korean Air's planned integration with Asiana is scheduled for December, making execution of the combination and preservation of operating standards an important next step for investors.
The broader South Korean market can be followed through current KOSPI market coverage.
