Klabin stock faces renewed investor focus after a third-quarter profit miss. Revenue growth was offset by higher weather and operating costs.

Mixed third-quarter results

  • Revenue increased 3% year over year, but higher costs reduced profit conversion.
  • Management expects weather-related cost pressure to continue into the first quarter of 2027.
  • The company plans a BRL 278 million dividend installment for November 12.

Klabin reported a mixed third quarter on October 29, with revenue growth failing to prevent a profit miss as operating costs rose. Investing.com reported that earnings per share came in at 0.0664 US dollars, below the 0.0845 US dollar consensus forecast.

Revenue growth meets cost pressure

Net revenue rose 3% year over year to BRL 5.6 billion, supported by higher pulp prices and a stronger sales mix. Sales volume was stable at 1.064 million metric tons, indicating that demand and production held broadly steady during the quarter.

Adjusted EBITDA reached BRL 1.9 billion, but the margin fell to 33%. Cash costs climbed to BRL 3,500 per metric ton in the quarter, while management attributed roughly BRL 111 per metric ton of additional pressure to weather and geopolitical factors.

Weather risk extends into 2027

Management expects El Nino-related pressure to persist into the first quarter of 2027 before easing more fully in the second quarter. Higher rainfall in Brazil has complicated forestry operations and increased working-capital requirements, while fuel and other input costs remain exposed to geopolitical disruptions.

Klabin said fourth-quarter conditions should remain stable for short-fiber pulp, fluff and coated board. Kraftliner remains a strategic focus, with the company pointing to stronger long-fiber positioning and further potential from the restart of its Monte Alegre recovery boiler.

Leverage and shareholder returns

Net debt stood at BRL 24 billion at the end of the quarter, with net debt to adjusted EBITDA at 3.3 times. Liquidity reached BRL 12.1 billion, including BRL 9.5 billion in cash, while free cash flow over the preceding 12 months was BRL 40 million.

Management also highlighted BRL 1.152 billion in shareholder distributions over the preceding 12 months. The next dividend installment, totaling BRL 278 million, is scheduled for November 12.
