- Jaguar Health is developing plant-derived prescription medicines for complex gastrointestinal diseases.
- Napo's adult short-bowel study remains ongoing, while the company prepares further rare-disease milestones.
Jaguar Health said on October 14, 2026, that its family company Napo Pharmaceuticals had presented preliminary results from an ongoing open-label pilot study of liquid crofelemer in adults with Type 1 short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure. The company is targeting a mid-2027 New Drug Application for crofelemer in microvillus inclusion disease, according to the Jaguar Health press release.
Early study results remain preliminary
The pilot study plans to enroll six subjects, with four participants having completed the protocol at the time of the update. Two participants recorded an average 5 percent reduction in ostomy volume after 12 weeks of treatment, while three saw ostomy output rise by an average 23 percent after treatment stopped.
One participant recorded a 9 percent reduction in parenteral-support volume, and three participants showed an average 88 percent improvement in urinary output at 12 weeks. The company said no significant adverse events were observed, but the open-label design and small study size limit the conclusions that investors can draw from the interim findings.
Clinical milestones remain ahead
Napo is also conducting a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 study in adults with Type 1 short bowel syndrome. Results are expected early in the second half of 2027, while the broader intestinal-failure program includes pediatric microvillus inclusion disease and short bowel syndrome.
The planned filing for microvillus inclusion disease is a regulatory objective rather than an approval decision. Future trial results, regulatory interactions and the company's ability to finance development will remain central to the investment case.
Jaguar's gastrointestinal focus
Jaguar Health develops proprietary prescription drugs derived from plants for people with complex gastrointestinal diseases. Its family companies Napo Pharmaceuticals and Napo Therapeutics focus on developing and commercializing crofelemer for rare and orphan gastrointestinal disorders involving intestinal failure. Jaguar also has a joint venture, Magdalena Biosciences, focused on plant-derived prescription medicines for mental-health indications, as described on the company's investor overview.
