Itaúsa is preparing to broaden its investment activity if Brazil's interest-rate environment changes materially, according to Valor International. The report, published on October 7, 2026, described statements made by chairman Raul Calfat at an investor event on October 6.
Portfolio strategy stays selective
Calfat said Itaúsa had mapped sectors of interest and was in advanced talks with several potential targets. The holding company is nevertheless concentrating on businesses it already knows, reflecting a cautious operating backdrop and the need for disciplined capital allocation.
Chief executive and investor relations officer Alfredo Setúbal pointed to Itaúsa's purchase of Alpargatas shares after the footwear maker was considered undervalued. The report also said Aegea had adopted a more conservative stance after financial and leverage pressures delayed its initial public offering plans.
Portfolio companies set priorities
Motiva is prioritizing growth opportunities inside its existing infrastructure concessions, with about 20 billion Brazilian reais in potential projects. Alpargatas is seeking stronger international sales and margins in 40 countries, while Dexco is focused on reducing leverage and debt before returning to growth.
What Itaúsa does
Itaúsa is a Brazilian investment holding company that controls Itaú Unibanco and holds interests in Motiva, Dexco, Alpargatas and Aegea. Its portfolio spans financial services, infrastructure, sanitation, consumer products and building materials. The company is positioned as a diversified owner that allocates capital across established businesses rather than operating as a single-sector producer.
