Indian Oil Corporation returned to profit in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, as stronger refining, petrochemical and gas margins improved operating performance. CNBC TV18 reported that the state-owned refiner posted a standalone net profit of INR 21,630 crore, compared with a loss of INR 2,661 crore in the previous quarter.

Margins drive quarterly turnaround

Revenue from operations fell 4.6 percent sequentially to INR 2.50 lakh crore from INR 2.62 lakh crore. EBITDA rose to INR 30,297 crore from INR 1,947 crore, lifting the EBITDA margin to 12 percent from 0.7 percent.

The improvement came despite higher crude prices. Government compensation for domestic liquefied petroleum gas losses also supported the quarter, while the company said profitability benefited from a temporary decline in crude oil prices from mid-June to mid-August and robust petrochemical and gas margins.

The results were released after the Indian market closed on Friday, October 30, 2026. The strong quarter improves the earnings base after the first-quarter loss, but future results remain exposed to crude-price movements, inventory effects and regulated domestic fuel pricing.
