Hyundai Steel stock falls 5.01 percent after Q2 profit drops
Published on 10/07/2026 at 07:27 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSHyundai Steel stock (ISIN KR7004020004) was last at KRW 28,450 on the Korea Exchange on October 7, 2026, at 2:04 p.m. KST, down 5.01 percent from KRW 29,950. The latest company figures show the central tension: Q2 2026 revenue rose 2.7 percent year over year to KRW 6.11 trillion, but operating profit fell 43.4 percent to KRW 57.7 billion, according to ATS View.
Q2 growth meets weaker profit
The Q2 margin was 0.9 percent, compared with 1.7 percent in Q2 2025, while net income reached KRW 12.1 billion. The combination points to higher sales without equivalent earnings power, leaving steel prices, shipment volumes and input costs as the key operating variables.
Hyundai Steel's Q1 operating profit was KRW 15.7 billion, so the Q2 result improved by KRW 42.0 billion sequentially. That comparison is positive on a quarterly basis, but the year-over-year decline shows why the recovery remains uneven.
Hanwha sees a delayed recovery
According to EDAILY on October 6, 2026, Hanwha Investment and Securities maintained a Buy rating and a KRW 43,000 target price. Its Q3 forecast called for revenue of KRW 5.638 trillion and operating profit of KRW 64.9 billion, 44.1 percent below the KRW 116 billion consensus estimate cited in the report.
Hanwha expects Q4 operating profit of KRW 130.1 billion, twice the Q3 projection. The forecast makes volume recovery and the acceptance of higher steel prices more important than revenue growth alone, especially after domestic rebar sales in July fell 18 percent from the Q2 monthly average.
Consensus target stays above price
The published consensus comprised 10 target prices, with an average of KRW 45,530, a high of KRW 50,000 and a low of KRW 40,000, according to StockHub as of October 6, 2026. The average target lies 60.0 percent above the KRW 28,450 price, while Hanwha's KRW 43,000 target lies 51.1 percent above it.
For investors, the valuation case depends on whether stronger second-half earnings can offset the immediate volume pressure. Hyundai Steel manufactures steel products for automobile, shipbuilding and construction customers, so the recovery depends on both industrial demand and the company's ability to pass through price increases.
