Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance is expanding its range of customized insurance products, according to a report published by ChosunBiz on October 29, 2026. The insurer is combining usage-based auto insurance with broader medical benefits and products designed for customers with pre-existing conditions.
Safe-driving incentives move beyond enrollment
The company recently obtained a patent for the core technology of its Monthly Safe Driving Score Discount Rider, which was launched in July 2025. The product can provide an additional 5% premium discount when a policyholder records a safe-driving score of at least 70 points for nine months within the relevant year.
Unlike conventional usage-based insurance that mainly considers driving behavior before enrollment, the rider also reflects driving habits after a policy begins. Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance said its UBI policyholder base had increased 47% year on year by July 2026. It also reported that consistently safe drivers had an accident rate three percentage points below that of non-enrollees.
Medical products target specific needs
The insurer has added coverage for prenatal tests following abnormal screening results to its Good & Good Children’s Comprehensive Insurance Q. The policy covers chorionic villus or amniotic fluid testing up to KRW 700,000 for the first instance under the stated conditions.
Its Good & Good 1540 Comprehensive Insurance now includes annual coverage for antiviral treatment costs for selected diseases, including chickenpox, respiratory syncytial virus, shingles and hepatitis. The insurer said the benefit covers 37 types of antiviral drugs used for major viral diseases.
Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance has also introduced My Body (N) Customized Easy Health Insurance for customers with pre-existing conditions. The product assesses cancer, brain and heart disease histories separately and can offer broader limits where a customer has no corresponding prior history.
Investor context
For investors, the product changes illustrate how the insurer is using customer data and targeted coverage to differentiate its offerings. The commercial effect will depend on take-up, claims experience and the balance between premium discounts and risk selection; the cited report does not provide a forecast for earnings or the share price.
The current market reports provide broader context for South Korean equities.
Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance’s expansion of safe-driving and tailored health products is therefore best viewed as a product and customer-retention initiative rather than as evidence of an immediate financial outcome.
