Hypera's Semavy injection pen has quickly become the Brazilian drugmaker's top-selling product, adding momentum to its third-quarter performance. According to Valor International, Hypera sold 93,000 Semavy units in September and expected sales to double in October. The semaglutide-based injection pen was launched in September.

Strong launch supports quarterly growth

Hypera reported third-quarter revenue of BRL 2.4 billion, an increase of 9.4 percent from the prior-year period. Adjusted net income rose 16 percent to BRL 527 million. The company said Semavy helped offset a 15 percent decline in flu-medication sales between July and September.

Direct-to-consumer sales increased 6.6 percent year over year, supported by skin-care products and medicines associated with the injection pen. Tamarine sales rose 15 percent during the quarter, according to the report.

Margin pressure remains in focus

EBITDA from continuing operations increased 3.4 percent to BRL 782.3 million, while the EBITDA margin declined 1.9 percentage points to 32.1 percent. Hypera attributed the slower EBITDA growth relative to revenue to higher marketing and sales expenses as it promoted Semavy and other recent launches.

Hypera said Semavy had been prescribed by about 30,000 endocrinologists and cardiologists. The product is initially indicated for diabetes treatment, while the company is also seeking prescriptions from other medical specialists. The launch gives the group exposure to the expanding market for semaglutide-based treatments, but the higher launch spending keeps profitability in focus.

Analyst target moves higher

BTG Pactual raised its price target for Hypera to BRL 25 from BRL 24 and kept a neutral rating, citing progress in working-capital management and deleveraging while noting that a consistent EBITDA growth path had not yet emerged. Hypera said it aims to reduce leverage from about two times EBITDA to 1.5 times.

The latest report provides investors with a clearer early measure of Semavy's commercial contribution. The key follow-up will be whether the initial sales momentum can continue without keeping marketing costs elevated.
