Hanmi Pharm and GC Biopharma have entered into an exclusive license agreement with BioMarin for the investigational Fabry disease therapy HM15421/GC1134A. BioMarin announced the agreement on October 29, 2026.

Terms and development responsibilities

BioMarin will pay an upfront amount of USD 70 million. Hanmi and GC Biopharma are jointly eligible for up to USD 405 million in additional development and commercial milestone payments, as well as tiered royalties on net sales.

The license covers worldwide rights except Korea. BioMarin will assume responsibility for subsequent clinical development, manufacturing and commercialization outside Korea after the ongoing Phase 1/2 study. Hanmi and GC Biopharma will retain commercialization rights in Korea.

Clinical-stage Fabry candidate

HM15421/GC1134A is a long-acting enzyme replacement therapy based on recombinant alpha-galactosidase A. It is designed to extend half-life and improve stability compared with currently available enzyme replacement therapies, supporting administration under the skin rather than through an intravenous infusion.

BioMarin said the candidate is being studied in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial and received Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2024. Preclinical studies showed differentiated results across measures related to renal function, vascular health and the peripheral nervous system, according to the company.
