Genmab's run of late-stage cancer-drug successes is reshaping the investment case ahead of its third-quarter results on November 5. In a report published on November 3, CNBC said the Danish biotech had delivered three successful Phase 3 outcomes in October.

Three trials change the outlook

Genmab's petosemtamab combined with Merck's Keytruda reduced the risk of death by 50% versus Keytruda alone in a Phase 3 study of patients with recurrent or metastatic head and neck cancer. The combination also improved response rates, with no new safety signals reported in the announcement cited by CNBC.

Earlier October results showed that Rina-S reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 71% and the risk of death by 57% versus chemotherapy in a Phase 3 ovarian-cancer study. Epkinly, developed with AbbVie, reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 51% when combined with standard chemotherapy in previously untreated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Ownership brings greater potential

Genmab has historically benefited from royalties on medicines developed with partners, including Johnson & Johnson's DARZALEX and Novartis' Kesimpta. Chief Executive Jan van de Winkel told CNBC that the company is using this financial base to retain a larger share of revenue from medicines it develops and sells.

That strategy can increase Genmab's commercial opportunity if its pipeline reaches patients, but it also leaves the company with more responsibility for clinical development, regulatory approvals and sales. Petosemtamab and Rina-S are fully owned by Genmab, while the company shares the commercial economics of Epkinly with AbbVie.
