- EHang unveiled the pilotless EH216-EK for aerial firefighting in forests, industrial sites and other hard-to-reach areas.
- The aircraft broadens EHang's applications beyond passenger transport, logistics and other urban air mobility services.
- Further product validation and cooperation with emergency agencies remain important steps before wider commercial adoption.
EHang has expanded its pilotless aircraft portfolio into aerial firefighting. On November 4, 2026, the company unveiled the EH216-EK at its Wencheng Smart Manufacturing Center in China and completed a demonstration flight, according to EHang.
The EH216-EK is designed for early-stage fires in forests and grasslands, elevated or remote locations, industrial parks, and storage and logistics facilities. EHang said the aircraft can work with its command platform and fire-monitoring drones, which can relay fire data and support automated three-dimensional flight-route planning.
New aircraft targets difficult fires
The firefighting eVTOL has a maximum design takeoff weight of 620 kilograms and a maximum design mission payload of 160 kilograms. Its 12-channel release system can carry twelve 10-kilogram extinguishing canisters or eight 20-kilogram canisters, with water-based agents and ultra-fine dry powder among the stated options.
EHang said the aircraft is intended to reach fire scenes quickly, release its payload precisely and reduce the need for firefighters to enter hazardous areas. The company also said the first batch of EH216-EK aircraft had completed assembly at the Wencheng center, which is being developed for production, testing, delivery and maintenance.
Commercialization still depends on validation
The new model extends EHang's focus from passenger-carrying eVTOL aircraft into emergency response. The company plans further product validation and application development, including joint exercises and initiatives with emergency-management agencies, forestry authorities and industrial-park operators.
EHang's approach is more specialized than conventional aviation because its aircraft are pilotless and designed for autonomous operation. In the wider advanced-air-mobility market, it competes for attention with Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation, while its portfolio also spans passenger transport, logistics, smart-city management and aerial media solutions.
For investors, the firefighting model offers another potential application for EHang's autonomous-flight technology, but commercial contribution will depend on customer adoption, operational approvals and successful deployment outside demonstration programs.
EHang Holdings Limited develops pilotless electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and related commercial solutions for passenger transportation, logistics, smart-city management and aerial media. The Guangzhou, China-based company is a specialist in autonomous eVTOL systems, alongside broader-sector peers such as Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation. Its EH216-S has received type, production and standard airworthiness certificates from China's Civil Aviation Administration, giving EHang an established certification base in its home market.
