Doosan Enerbility said on Thursday, October 29, 2026, that it had signed a contract with NuScale Power to manufacture an upper reactor coolant system for the US company's small modular reactor. World Nuclear News reported the agreement on Friday, October 30.
From materials to reactor equipment
The component forms the upper section of the reactor pressure vessel and holds coolant under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions. Production is planned at Doosan Enerbility's reactor facility in Changwon.
The companies began working together in 2019. A 2023 agreement covered materials for NuScale's SMR, while the latest contract moves the relationship into the fabrication of finished reactor components for commercial deployment.
Commercial scale remains next step
NuScale said the agreement supports the transition of its approved design into deliverable modules. Doosan Enerbility said it plans to strengthen its supply chain and manufacturing readiness as the programme advances, with follow-on orders dependent on customer projects and deployment schedules.
The NuScale Power Module is a pressurised water reactor rated at 77 megawatts. Its design received approval from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission in September 2020, and NuScale markets plants built from multiple modules.
