- The Manawa integration reached NZD 28 million in annual cost synergies in fiscal 2026.
- Contact Energy added 2.4 TWh of annual renewable output through the acquisition.
- The transaction completed on July 11, 2025, after approval in May 2025.
Contact Energy reports NZD 28 million in annual cost synergies from the Manawa Energy integration, a figure that gives Manawa Energy stock a concrete post-acquisition operating benchmark. Kurums reported the figure on October 4, 2026, alongside Contact's fiscal 2026 operating data.
What the synergies mean
The annual run-rate was fully achieved, with NZD 22 million recognized in fiscal 2026, according to Kurums. For investors assessing the former Manawa business, that split matters because it separates the full recurring target from the amount already reflected in the fiscal-year result.
The integration also added 2.4 TWh of annual renewable output and 26 hydro schemes across New Zealand, figures published by Kurums. The broader asset base diversifies rainfall exposure across multiple catchments rather than depending on one large hydro system.
Deal timeline and operating scale
Manawa Energy entered the scheme implementation agreement with Contact Energy on September 11, 2024, and the acquisition completed on July 11, 2025, according to Manawa Energy. The transaction followed Commerce Commission clearance in May 2025 and transferred all Manawa shares into the Contact group.
Kurums said Contact generated NZD 1.011 billion of EBITDAF in fiscal 2026, up 31 percent from NZD 774 million in fiscal 2025. Net profit reached NZD 423 million, up 62 percent from NZD 261 million, while operating free cash flow rose 49 percent to NZD 648 million.
Renewable output drives the next test
Manawa's assets now sit within a larger renewable platform that combines hydro, geothermal and wind exposure. The operating question is whether Contact can preserve the NZD 28 million synergy run-rate while investing in new generation and managing the execution risk of a broader project pipeline.
Manawa Energy's website describes the company as part of the Contact group after the July 11, 2025 completion. That status means the former MNW equity story is now best understood through the acquired assets' contribution to Contact's fiscal 2026 results and future renewable capacity.
