- Third-quarter net income rose from the year-earlier period, helped by stronger net interest income and a loan recovery.
- The bank completed its national charter conversion and plans to introduce the Canal Bank & Trust brand across its footprint.
- Commercial lending growth and a higher quarterly dividend remain key investor focus points.
Chemung Financial Corporation reported third-quarter 2026 net income of 12.7 million US dollars, or 2.63 US dollars per diluted share, on October 22. In its third-quarter release, GlobeNewswire reported that profit increased from 7.8 million US dollars, or 1.62 US dollars per share, in the year-earlier quarter.
Loan Growth Supports Results
Net interest income reached 25.7 million US dollars, up 13.2 percent from the third quarter of 2025. The fully taxable equivalent net interest margin widened to 3.74 percent from 3.45 percent.
A 2.6 million US dollar credit for loan losses also supported quarterly earnings. The credit mainly reflected a 2.9 million US dollar partial recovery tied to the settlement of litigation involving a commercial and industrial loan participation. That item is a material factor when assessing the sustainability of the quarter's earnings.
Charter Conversion Changes Branding
Chemung Canal Trust Company completed its conversion from a New York state trust company to a national bank effective October 1. Chemung Financial said in October that its three divisional brands will be unified under the Canal Bank & Trust name, with the rollout beginning in 2027.
Commercial lending remained the main growth driver. Year-to-date annualized loan growth was 7.7 percent, including 11.7 percent in commercial loans. The company also raised its quarterly dividend by 0.02 US dollars to 0.36 US dollars per share.
Business Model And Competition
Chemung Financial is a bank holding company headquartered in Elmira, New York. Through Chemung Canal Trust Company, it provides community banking, lending, deposit, trust and wealth-management services through 30 retail offices, while CFS Group provides brokerage, insurance, tax and related financial services.
