Chedraui stock gained 1.05 percent despite Q2 profit pressure

The move came as the retailer's latest operating picture showed a sharp split between Mexico and the consolidated group.
Consolidated profit faces pressure
According to Merca20 in its September 14, 2026 report on the second quarter, consolidated revenue fell 3.9 percent year over year to MXN 71.03 billion. EBITDA declined 2.2 percent to MXN 6.41 billion, while net income fell 11.5 percent to MXN 1.83 billion.
The figures show why the market reaction needs context. Chedraui's Mexican operations continued to expand, but weaker demand and currency effects weighed on the group result, especially through its US business.
Mexico operations remain resilient
Chedraui Mexico delivered sales growth of 5.1 percent to MXN 36.06 billion in Q2 2026, according to Merca20. Mexico EBITDA rose 5.2 percent to MXN 3.42 billion, and the EBITDA margin held at 9.5 percent, matching the level from the year-earlier quarter.
Same-store sales in Mexico increased 1.3 percent, supported by a 2.2 percent rise in average ticket size. Transactions fell 0.9 percent, however, showing that customers spent more per visit while shopping less often. Digital sales reached 4.6 percent of Mexican sales, up from 3.9 percent a year earlier.
Expansion meets softer demand
The company opened 27 Supercitos and one Chedraui store in Mexico during the quarter, while its Mexican selling area expanded 4.4 percent year over year. That expansion supported sales growth, but the transaction decline points to a consumer environment where store productivity matters as much as new locations.
For investors, the central question is whether promotional discipline can protect margins while Chedraui continues to add stores. The second-quarter data offer both sides of that comparison: Mexican EBITDA increased 5.2 percent, while consolidated net income declined 11.5 percent.
