Chandra Asri Group has completed a strategic investment partnership with Danantara Investment Management and the Indonesia Investment Authority for its chlor-alkali and ethylene dichloride project in Indonesia. The milestone was announced on October 15, 2026, in a Danantara press release.
Project targets commercial start
The CA-EDC facility in Cilegon is designed to produce approximately 400 kilotonnes per year of caustic soda and 500 kilotonnes of ethylene dichloride. These chemicals are used across industrial applications, including Indonesia's bauxite and alumina value chain.
Construction was approximately 80 percent complete in September 2026, with main equipment installation under way and supporting infrastructure such as the jetty, trestle and storage facilities being developed. The project remains on track to commence commercial operations in 2027.
The partnership is intended to increase domestic production, reduce reliance on imports and strengthen the availability of critical raw materials. Chandra Asri said the project is also expected to create approximately 3,000 construction jobs and 250 permanent operational positions.
Business platform spans three pillars
Chandra Asri Group operates across Energy and Chemicals, Integrated Infrastructure and Mobility Solutions. Its businesses and assets are located in Indonesia and Singapore, with an expanding presence in Malaysia, according to the company profile included in the Danantara release.
The group operates integrated energy and chemical assets, infrastructure businesses covering power, water, ports, storage and logistics, and mobility operations that include Esso retail service stations. The company describes itself as a leading industrial company in Southeast Asia; this regional platform gives the CA-EDC project a broader operating context than a standalone chemical plant.
