Catalyst Metals faces a slower growth path

  • Trident underground and Old Highway production has shifted from FY27 into FY28.
  • September-quarter output fell to 22,231 ounces while higher costs increased pressure on the near-term outlook.
  • The company retains a long-term target of approximately 200,000 ounces of annual gold production.

Catalyst Metals' growth schedule has slipped as production from the Trident underground mine and Old Highway project moves from FY27 into FY28. The shift leaves investors focused on project execution, permitting and the cost of maintaining the existing Plutonic operation.

Colitco reported on October 31 that Trident's underground development was about 100 metres behind its anticipated schedule and that Old Highway remained dependent on approvals. Catalyst no longer expects underground gold from Trident during FY27, while Old Highway activity is expected to begin during calendar 2027.

Lower output raises cost pressure

September-quarter gold production fell to 22,231 ounces from 31,886 ounces in June, according to the report. Staffing constraints and extended processing shutdowns reduced material movement at Plutonic Main and Plutonic East.

Catalyst's FY27 production guidance is 90,000 to 105,000 ounces, with all-in sustaining costs of 3,600 to 4,100 Australian dollars per ounce. The report says the higher cost outlook reflects lower production at existing mines, industry inflation and the demands of expansion.

There are also financial buffers. Cash and bullion reached 371 million Australian dollars after a 40 million Australian dollar increase during the September quarter, while the company reported 80 million Australian dollars of operating cash flow under its stated measure. Its revolving credit facility was expanded to 200 million Australian dollars and remained undrawn at quarter-end.

The long-term target remains intact

Catalyst continues to target approximately 200,000 ounces of annual production for about ten years from the Plutonic Belt. The next operating milestones are faster underground development at Trident, approvals for Old Highway and improved reliability at the existing processing operations.
