BPCL stock draws a cautious view after its Q1 loss
Published on 09/30/2026 at 15:10 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSBPCL (ISIN INE029A01011) reported a consolidated net loss of INR 18.73 billion for Q1 FY2027, turning sharply from net income of INR 56.25 billion in Q4 FY2026. BPCL stock is therefore being judged against a difficult earnings reset as the company enters the second half of fiscal 2027.
Kotak keeps a cautious target
Investing.com reported that Kotak maintained its Sell rating and an INR 315.00 12-month price target on September 29, 2026. The target sits above the latest NSE quote, but the limited gap leaves the earnings recovery as the central test for the stock.
The same Investing.com overview showed a neutral consensus from 31 analysts, with 16 Buy ratings, 8 Hold ratings and 7 Sell ratings. Its average 12-month target was INR 345.32, giving investors a broad spread of views rather than a single clear earnings narrative.
Revenue rises while margins reverse
The Economic Times reported Q1 FY2027 total income of INR 152,526.33 crore, equivalent to INR 1.53 trillion, up 27.48 percent from INR 119,651.49 crore in Q4 FY2026. The comparison shows that higher sales value did not translate into stronger quarterly profitability.
The margin figures explain the reversal. According to The Economic Times, BPCL's EBIT margin fell to minus 1.96 percent in Q1 FY2027 from 7.51 percent in Q4 FY2026, while net profit margin moved to minus 1.23 percent from 4.70 percent. For investors, the earnings sensitivity to refining and marketing margins matters more than revenue growth alone.
NSE value reaches INR 1.3 trillion
BPCL was last at INR 303.20 on the NSE on September 30, 2026 at 3:15 p.m. IST. The stock's 52-week range was INR 266.60 to INR 391.65, placing the latest quote below the yearly high while the market capitalization stood at INR 1.3 trillion on the same date.
