- Bank of India reported stronger Q2 FY2027 earnings, supported by higher operating profit, net interest income and improved asset quality.
- Management expects advances and deposits to grow in the mid-teens during FY2027 while preparing for expected credit loss provisions.
- Investors are monitoring funding costs, the CASA ratio and the effect of the new provisioning framework on capital.
Bank of India reported a stronger second quarter of fiscal 2027, with net profit up 25 percent year over year to INR 3,202 crore. The results and management outlook were covered by Investing.com in a transcript published October 23 and updated November 5.
Growth Broadens Across Banking
Operating profit rose 33 percent to INR 5,089 crore, while net interest income increased 18 percent to INR 7,007 crore. Non-interest income advanced 24 percent to INR 2,770 crore, giving the lender several sources of earnings growth in the September quarter.
Business expansion was also broad-based. Global deposits increased 21 percent year over year to INR 10.37 lakh crore, while global gross advances rose 20 percent to INR 8.55 lakh crore. Retail, agriculture and small-business advances grew 18 percent and represented 58 percent of gross advances.
Asset Quality And ECL Risks
Gross non-performing assets improved to 1.60 percent and net non-performing assets to 0.42 percent. The capital adequacy ratio stood at 17.78 percent, leaving the bank above the regulatory minimum as it prepares for the expected credit loss framework.
Management said expected credit loss provisioning is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2027. It expects the framework to reduce the capital ratio by about 0.5 percentage point annually over four years, while planned front-loaded provisions could begin in the third quarter.
Guidance Keeps Focus On Funding
Bank of India expects global advances to grow 15 to 16 percent and global deposits 16 to 17 percent in FY2027. Management also aims to keep return on assets above 1 percent through March 2027.
Funding costs remain a central issue. The global net interest margin declined to 2.47 percent from 2.52 percent in the previous quarter, partly because the bank raised FCNR deposits to support its overseas loan book. Management said the latest repo-rate increase could provide a six to seven basis-point benefit to net interest margin, although deposit repricing may offset part of the gain.
