Carbon capture facility inaugurated
Yara said on September 7, 2026, that its industrial carbon capture facility at the Sluiskil plant in the Netherlands had been officially inaugurated. The company said the facility can capture and liquefy up to 800,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually from ammonia production, with the carbon dioxide transported by ship to Norway for permanent storage beneath the seabed. Yara expects the project to capture and store around 12 million tons over 15 years, according to the Yara International release. The European Commission separately said the plant had started operations and described it as Europe’s largest commercial carbon capture and storage project, with the same annual capture and 15-year storage figures here.
