Battery partnership expands
In a September 28, 2026 press release, Volkswagen Group, PowerCo SE and Gotion High-tech said they had agreed to deepen their strategic partnership. The companies plan three joint ventures at Valencia in Spain, Šurany in Slovakia and Kenitra in Morocco for the industrial production of LFP battery cells and cathode material. PowerCo is expected to contribute around EUR 470 million to the Šurany and Kenitra sites by 2030 for a 49 percent stake, while Gotion is expected to invest around EUR 1.1 billion for a 49 percent stake in the Valencia site. The agreements remain subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
