H2FUTURE expansion in Linz
On October 2, 2026, voestalpine AG and VERBUND announced the expansion of the H2FUTURE hydrogen pilot plant at voestalpine's Linz site. The partners are adding a compression and purification unit and five hydrogen storage tanks as part of an expansion costing EUR 16.40 million, according to the voestalpine release. Four tanks are intended to balance fluctuations in production and consumption, while a fifth is planned to supply the HY4SMELT demonstration plant from the end of 2027 through an approximately one-kilometer pipeline. The project is scheduled to end in December 2030.
