Yahoo Finance reported on October 6, 2026, that Russian President Vladimir Putin had signed a decree allowing UniCredit to reorganize and sell part of its Russian business. UniCredit plans to retain an operation focused on international euro and dollar payments for corporate clients not subject to sanctions, while the remaining business is intended for sale to an undisclosed buyer.
Russian business restructuring
The planned transaction remains subject to binding agreements, the separation of the businesses and regulatory approvals, according to the report. UniCredit said in May that it expected completion in the first half of 2027.
Capital framework approval
Separately, UniCredit announced on September 8, 2026, that the European Central Bank had approved its application to use the Danish Compromise in calculating consolidated capital ratios. In the company’s statement, insurance holdings may be treated through risk weighting rather than deducted from regulatory capital starting with third-quarter 2026 reporting. UniCredit estimated the authorization would benefit its CET1 ratio by approximately 52 basis points based on its second-quarter 2026 position. The announcement was published by UniCredit.
