Investor challenges Swiss capital rules
Artisan Partners urged UBS to leave Switzerland, arguing that proposed tougher capital requirements would be punitive and damage shareholder value, according to Reuters. The investor's letter followed a proposal approved by Switzerland's upper house that would require UBS to back foreign units with 90 percent Common Equity Tier 1 capital. The proposal still requires debate in the lower house.
UBS said its goal was to continue operating successfully as a global bank from Switzerland. The bank also said it would protect shareholders' interests through informed decision-making and by advocating regulation that is targeted, proportionate and internationally aligned, Reuters reported.
