Deutsche Telekom said around half of its mobile network sites have been modernized as part of its effort to build an ultra-capacity network. The company said it aims for 90 percent of sites to offer download capacity of 1 gigabit per second per cell. More than 80 percent of its mobile sites are already connected by fiber, according to the company’s September 30 publication. Deutsche Telekom also said it had replaced 24 MAR2 routers with higher-capacity equipment, including interfaces designed to handle up to 400 gigabits per second.
August network expansion
In a separate September 30 media information, Deutsche Telekom reported that it had put 115 new mobile network sites into operation in August and increased capacity at 401 existing sites. The company said around 99 percent of households nationwide can access its 5G network, while 4G household coverage is nearly 100 percent. It also said its 30,000th Cell Site Gateway had been commissioned and that more than 80 percent of mobile sites were connected by fiber. Deutsche Telekom said the gateways support connections of up to 10 gigabits per second.
