Starship reaches orbit
On September 28, SpaceX’s Starship reached orbit for the first time during its 14th test flight, according to Reuters. The uncrewed mission deployed 26 next-generation Starlink satellites, marking Starship’s first orbital payload deployment.
The mission was shortened from a planned 10 hours to about three hours after one of Starship’s three main engines shut down prematurely following separation from the Super Heavy booster. Reuters reported that the vehicle nevertheless reached orbit after the remaining engines were used for the maneuver and later completed a controlled descent into the Pacific.
