September share repurchases
Sony Group Corporation reported that it repurchased 6,892,400 common shares for JPY 26,005,851,887 between September 1 and September 30, 2026. The purchases were made on the open market through the Tokyo Stock Exchange under a discretionary trading contract, according to the company’s October 5 investor-relations release.
The company’s board-approved program allows repurchases of up to 230 million shares and JPY 500 billion through May 10, 2027. As of September 30, Sony said it had repurchased 74,473,700 shares for JPY 263,357,992,192 under the resolution, the same company release said.
Sony’s anime businesses
In a corporate blog post dated October 6, Sony described Aniplex as part of Sony Music Group in Japan and Crunchyroll as a joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex. The post said Crunchyroll’s premium streaming service had more than 21 million paid subscribers across more than 200 countries and territories as of March 31, 2026.
