Certification for battery inverter platform

On September 28, SMA Solar Technology AG said it had received the first certification under a VDE FNN technical notice covering grid-forming properties and the provision of instantaneous reserves. The certification applies to the Sunny Central Storage UP-S battery inverter platform and confirms compliance with version 2.1 of the VDE FNN notice, according to SMA Solar.

The company said the certification provides a standardized path for testing, verification and certification of grid-forming technologies participating in Germany’s instantaneous-reserve market. SMA also said its technology had previously been used in projects including Blackhillock and Kilmarnock in the United Kingdom and the Föhren battery-storage project in Germany, as reported in the same release.

The company said Olaf Heyden would assume the CEO responsibilities until further notice, while SMA would be temporarily managed by Heyden and Kaveh Rouhi, according to SMA Solar Investor Relations.
