BPCE has acquired a stake equivalent to approximately 7% of Banco de Sabadell’s share capital through market purchases and financial instruments, according to a BPCE release distributed by GlobeNewswire dated October 6, 2026. The companies described the investment as friendly.
BPCE plans long-term role
BPCE said it intends to become a stable, long-term shareholder and does not intend to increase its holding in Banco de Sabadell beyond 9.9%, the company announcement said. With Sabadell’s support, BPCE will begin discussions with Spanish and European supervisory authorities concerning the appointment of a director, subject to governance procedures and required approvals.
Cooperation areas under review
Banco de Sabadell and BPCE intend to explore business cooperation in corporate and investment banking, equipment leasing, consumer credit and cross-border client activities. The release said the discussions are expected to conclude in early 2027 and will examine ways to support Sabadell’s development in Spain while strengthening BPCE’s European presence.
