PSE&G expands residential battery pilot
PSE&G, a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Inc., launched the GridSmart Battery Program on September 28, 2026. The pilot offers residential electric customers a $5,000 incentive toward qualifying home battery systems and up to $25,000 in interest-free, on-bill repayment for remaining installation costs, according to ACCESS Newswire.
The program is part of PSE&G's residential virtual power plant pilot. Participating batteries may be used during scheduled events to reduce customer demand from the electric grid during peak periods. PSE&G said the pilot will evaluate reliability, peak-demand reduction, operational insight and customer resiliency.
Utility reports reliability improvements
In a September 24, 2026 release, PSE&G reported a 50% improvement in reliability across 20 upgraded circuits, following the replacement of approximately 22,000 utility poles from 2023 through July 2026. The utility also reported 22% fewer outage incidents and 23% fewer customers affected on average on circuits upgraded through its Infrastructure Advancement Program, according to ACCESS Newswire.
