GTF Advantage milestone
In a September 14, 2026 investor-relations release, MTU Aero Engines AG said United Airlines had received its first Airbus A321 XLR equipped with GTF Advantage engines. MTU said the engine offers 4 to 8 percent more takeoff thrust and greater range than the previous geared turbofan version.
The company also said more than 90 customers had placed orders and purchase commitments for over 14,000 GTF engines. Pratt & Whitney, MTU Aero Engines and Japanese Aero Engine Corporation plan to switch the entire PW1100G-JM production to the Advantage specification by 2028, according to the release.
