Lonza Group has begun construction of a new commercial spray-drying pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Bend, Oregon. The company marked the start of construction at a groundbreaking ceremony on September 14, 2026, according to a Lonza release.
Expansion in Oregon
The facility is expected to be completed in 2029 and create more than 80 new jobs. Lonza said the project will expand its Bend operations and establish the site as a global hub for spray-drying, an advanced manufacturing technology used to help improve how medicines are absorbed in the body. These details were provided in the company’s September 14 announcement.
Commercial-scale capacity
Lonza announced on September 10, 2026, that the new Bend facility would include two PSD-4 spray-drying units, along with infrastructure for solvent handling and storage. The company said the expansion is intended to support customers from development through commercial supply and strengthen its commercial-scale spray-drying capabilities in the United States, as described in the original Lonza announcement.
