Naval contract includes Leonardo work
In a September 24 release, Leonardo said Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, its 49%-owned joint venture with Fincantieri, had signed a EUR 3.7 billion contract with OCCAR for two DDX destroyers for the Italian Navy. The total includes approximately EUR 1.3 billion in options. OSN is expected to enter sub-supply contracts worth approximately EUR 1.8 billion with Fincantieri and approximately EUR 1.7 billion with Leonardo. The first and second ships are scheduled for delivery in 2033 and 2035, respectively. Leonardo said its combat system will be designed and developed for the program.
Leonardo leads Earth observation study
In a September 17 release, Leonardo said the European Space Agency awarded it a fully funded contract to define the architecture of the future EU Earth Observation Governmental Service. The Leonardo-led study will assess current capabilities, perform a gap analysis and evaluate architectural options for security and defense users. The consortium includes Telespazio, Thales Alenia Space, e-GEOS and other European partners across seven countries. Leonardo said the project is intended to support a sovereign and federated European Earth observation architecture.
