Survey highlights plasma-awareness gap
In a release dated October 5, 2026, Grifols said a Kantar survey of 2,000 adults in Spain found that half of respondents were unaware that plasma can be donated separately from conventional blood donation. The company said 42 percent did not know that plasma is used to manufacture essential medicines, while 75 percent said they would be willing to donate if they had more information and a nearby donation center.
Grifols said the survey was conducted between August 24 and September 3, 2026, as part of International Plasma Week. The company linked the awareness findings to rising demand for plasma-derived medicines and said Spain remains far from self-sufficient in plasma supplies.
Separate Canadian operations update
In a September 24, 2026 report, Reuters reported that Grifols said Health Canada’s suspension of a license to collect plasma at its Taylor Avenue facility in Winnipeg had no impact on ongoing operations because collection there had already been voluntarily suspended. Reuters also reported that Grifols said it was working with the regulator on a reopening plan.
