Third-quarter sales accelerate

In its September 30, 2026, Q3 trading update, Greggs PLC reported total sales growth of 7.7 percent for the 13 weeks to September 26, 2026. Like-for-like sales at company-managed shops rose 3.4 percent during the quarter, while total sales for the first 39 weeks increased 7.4 percent and like-for-like sales rose 2.6 percent.

Greggs said the improved trading reflected new product launches, menu innovation and more settled weather in August and September. The company said continued trading progress and cost control led it to expect a modestly improved outcome for 2026. It maintained its expectation for cost inflation of about 2 percent on a like-for-like basis.

Manufacturing proposals

Greggs also announced a consultation on proposals to consolidate its in-house manufacturing operations. The proposals could lead to the closure of four sites and around 740 redundancies over two and a half years. Greggs estimated cash costs of about £60 million, including about £40 million of capital expenditure, and expects annual pre-tax operating cost savings of about £20 million across the 2028 and 2029 financial years.
