Fuel price cap begins in Italy
Eni said in a September 25 release that it would cap prices for fuels marketed by Enilive at EUR 2.19 per liter for diesel and EUR 1.99 per liter for petrol. The company said the levels were approximately 17 cents below current average prices. The measure started September 28 and was set for an initial 30 days, with a possible extension through the end of the year depending on market and supply trends, according to Eni.
Eni linked the price cap to the excise-tax relief in effect. The company also said the initiative followed measures taken since March to only partially pass higher international market rates through to recommended prices at its service stations.
