New gas regulation takes effect
Spain’s National Markets and Competition Commission approved on September 18, 2026, the remuneration framework for gas transport, regasification and distribution for the 2027-2032 regulatory period. The circulars entered into force on October 1, 2026. For regasification, transport and technical system management, the regulator set a financial remuneration rate of 6.46 percent. The framework also updates investment and operating-and-maintenance unit values and introduces incentives for renewable-gas injections into transport networks, according to the CNMC.
Enagas highlights renewable gases
In a September 11, 2026 company release, Enagas said its Energy Transition General Manager Natalia Latorre highlighted green hydrogen and biomethane as contributors to Europe’s energy independence. The company reported that 27 terminals were already injecting biomethane into Spain’s gas system, while another 250 had been deemed technically viable for connection. Together, the facilities could inject 22 TWh of energy per year, Enagas said in its release.
