The company said three plugs were installed in each well. The work was carried out under the mandate of Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge following a 2019 Council of Ministers agreement on the permanent sealing and abandonment of the wells.
Enagás said the operations used the Noble Resolve floating offshore platform and were performed under Spanish regulations and international offshore well-abandonment standards. The company added that the wells are now prepared for the final dismantling phase covering the marine and onshore surface facilities.
The total estimated cost of the permanent well-sealing work is EUR 241 million, pending receipt of the final certifications, according to the company. The Castor facility includes offshore and onshore surface installations connected by a 30.3-kilometer pipeline.
