Contemporary Amperex Technology stock: CATL begins trial production at Debrecen plant

Contemporary Amperex Technology has begun trial production at its Debrecen battery plant in Hungary. The initial trial covers the facility’s first two cell production lines.

Contemporary Amperex Technology has begun trial production at its battery cell factory in Debrecen, Hungary. According to CATL, trial operations started on September 22, 2026, after the company obtained the required permits and completed the preconditions under its integrated pollution prevention and control permit.

First two production lines enter trial operation

The trial is intended to set up, optimize and validate production equipment and manufacturing processes ahead of series production. The initial phase covers the first two production lines in the new cell building. CATL said the Debrecen facility has produced 537,000 battery modules since module manufacturing began there in autumn 2024.

Once fully completed, the Hungarian site is planned to have a capacity of 100 gigawatt-hours and become CATL’s largest manufacturing base outside China. The company said the plant is intended to supply European automakers and support the region’s electric-mobility supply chain.
