Amazon agreement supports Calvert Cliffs expansion
In a September 30 release, Constellation Energy said it and Amazon had agreed to a 20-year power purchase arrangement supporting investment in and expansion of the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Maryland. The agreement includes 690 megawatts of power, including an approximately 190-megawatt uprate, with the additional capacity expected to come online between 2030 and 2032.
The release said the project will enable more than $3 billion in Maryland infrastructure investment across the 1,790-megawatt plant. It also said Amazon’s commitment is intended to provide revenue certainty for relicensing Calvert Cliffs for another 20 years.
Earlier Rhode Island acquisition
Separately, Constellation announced on September 10 that it had agreed to acquire 100% of RISEC Holdings, owner of the Rhode Island State Energy Center, from a Shell subsidiary for $715 million, subject to customary purchase-price adjustments, according to the company’s investor-relations release.
