Payments report highlights disruption risk

In a September 28 publication, Capgemini said stablecoins, tokenized deposits and central bank digital currencies could account for 4.00 percent of global payments volume by 2030. The Capgemini Research Institute said the shift puts USD 230 billion of traditional bank payments revenue at risk.

The report was based on a 2026 survey of 1,110 large corporations with revenue above USD 1 billion and a separate survey of 300 banking executives across nine markets, according to the company publication.

Capgemini said 74.00 percent of surveyed corporations described cross-border payments as slow, costly and unpredictable. It also reported that nearly 60.00 percent of corporate clients would consider sourcing stablecoin services from non-bank providers if banks do not keep pace.
