AstraZeneca invests in Summit
In a release published September 28, 2026, AstraZeneca said it had agreed to invest $2 billion in newly issued equity in Summit Therapeutics. The companies also agreed to evaluate AstraZeneca’s sonesitatug vedotin, or Sone-Ve, with Summit’s ivonescimab in gastrointestinal cancers.
Under the agreement, AstraZeneca will purchase approximately 109,000 preferred shares convertible into Summit common stock at a 1:1,000 ratio. Following completion, the investment is expected to give AstraZeneca rights equivalent to approximately 12.0 percent of Summit’s outstanding common stock, or approximately 10.6 percent on a fully diluted basis.
The collaboration is intended to support trials combining ivonescimab, a PD-1/VEGF bispecific antibody, with Sone-Ve, a Claudin-18.2-targeting antibody-drug conjugate. AstraZeneca said the companies also signed a memorandum of understanding covering a potential broader development program involving ivonescimab and additional AstraZeneca cancer medicines. Closing of the preferred-stock investment is anticipated within one week.
