The Zcash price is being watched ahead of the NU7 mainnet upgrade, which targets faster confirmations and new fee rules. A separate grants dispute adds a governance risk as traders assess the activation.

NU7 Puts Zcash in Focus

  • Zcash's NU7 upgrade is scheduled for mainnet block 3,543,405, with timing expected around November 5.
  • The upgrade targets 25-second blocks, changes fee allocation and makes old Sprout balances unspendable after activation.
  • Investing.com showed ZEC at 1,192.81 USD at 15:37:17 on November 4, with a market capitalization of 20.16 billion USD.
  • Zcash Community Grants withdrew a proposal to redirect funds toward future mining rewards.

The Zcash price is in focus ahead of Network Upgrade 7 (NU7), a consensus change scheduled for mainnet block 3,543,405. The activation is tied to block height rather than a fixed clock time and is currently planned for around November 5, according to the Zcash Foundation.

What NU7 changes

The upgrade is designed to reduce Zcash's target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. This should shorten the average wait for an initial confirmation, while the Foundation says daily ZEC issuance, the four-year halving schedule and the 21 million ZEC supply cap remain unchanged because the reward per block is adjusted.

NU7 also introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism. Under the new rules, 60 percent of transaction fees are placed in a reserve for future block rewards, while miners retain 40 percent. The upgrade adds limits for shielded transactions and invalidates version 4 transactions. Because Sprout transfers use that format, funds remaining in the old Sprout pool become unspendable after activation. Mainnet node operators must upgrade to Zebra 7.0.0 before the activation height.

Governance remains a second risk

Technical execution is not the only issue for ZEC holders. CoinDesk reported on November 4 that Zcash Community Grants had dropped a proposal to redirect about 98,000 ZEC toward future mining rewards. The committee had proposed moving 36,200 ZEC from its treasury into the network reserve after criticism of its funding and accountability. CoinDesk reported that ZCG said future funding should be decided through the usual governance process.

Price and investor context

The Zcash price shown on the Investing.com page was 1,192.81 USD at 15:37:17 on November 4, 2026, with the page displaying a 20.16 billion USD market capitalization, rank 10 and 1.15 billion USD in 24-hour volume. Its displayed 52-week range was 187.85 to 1,686.17 USD. These figures are a contemporaneous snapshot, not a UTC daily close comparison.

For investors, the key near-term variable is whether exchanges, wallets and nodes transition cleanly at the specified block height. A successful upgrade could remove an important technical uncertainty, while delays, service interruptions or a chain split could increase volatility. The scheduled nature of NU7 also means that market expectations may already reflect part of the event. This is an assessment of identifiable risks, not a buy or sell recommendation.
