The Zcash price is being assessed after the NU7 network upgrade went live on the mainnet. The protocol now targets faster blocks and sets aside most transaction fees for a future security reserve.

What NU7 changes for ZEC

  • Zcash activated the NU7 network upgrade at block 3,543,405 on Nov. 6, 2026, measured in UTC.
  • The upgrade reduces the target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and sends 60% of transaction fees to a public reserve.
  • Investing.com displayed ZEC at 1,254.53 US dollars when read on Nov. 8, with a market capitalization of 21.26 billion US dollars.

Zcash has moved its latest protocol upgrade from planning to production. NU7 activated at block 3,543,405 on Nov. 6, 2026, at 02:34 UTC, according to CoinDesk Research. The change is material for users and miners because it changes block timing, fee handling and the status of legacy Sprout funds.

Faster blocks, unchanged supply cap

NU7 cuts Zcash's target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Block subsidies are reduced proportionally, so the rate of new ZEC issuance remains essentially unchanged. The four-year halving schedule and the 21 million ZEC supply cap also remain in place, according to The Block.

The upgrade also activates the Network Sustainability Mechanism. It removes 60% of each block's transaction fees from circulation and stores them in a public reserve, while miners receive the remaining 40%. The reserved fees are scheduled for gradual reissuance through block rewards beginning at block 8,939,664, expected in 2031.

Legacy funds create a transition risk

NU7 invalidates version 4 transactions. Because Zcash's original Sprout shielded pool relies on that format, approximately 12,224 ZEC remaining there became unspendable at activation, CoinDesk Research reported. The transition therefore offers a network-efficiency benefit but also creates a specific operational risk for holders of older funds. Node operators needed compatible software to remain on the consensus chain.

Market snapshot for investors

When the Investing.com Zcash page was read on Nov. 8, it displayed a ZEC price of 1,254.53 US dollars at 02:31:11. The same page showed a 24-hour volume of 757.42 million US dollars, a market capitalization of 21.26 billion US dollars and a rank of 9. Its displayed 52-week range was 187.85 to 1,686.17 US dollars. These figures are a source snapshot rather than a verified UTC daily close, so they should not be treated as a precise day-on-day performance calculation.

Zcash describes itself as encrypted electronic cash using zero-knowledge encryption for private peer-to-peer payments, according to the Zcash project website. For investors, the immediate question is whether faster confirmation targets and the fee reserve can improve network durability without weakening privacy-focused use. Adoption, wallet and exchange readiness, and the treatment of legacy funds remain important follow-up points.
