XRP (XRP) had a payment-engine vulnerability patched on September 25, 2026, before the issue was publicly disclosed on October 9, 2026. The remediation addressed a flaw that could theoretically have enabled unauthorized, spendable XRP, as Yahoo Finance reported. The XRP price is 1.35 USD as of October 16, 2026, up 3.35 percent compared with the UTC daily close of October 15, 2026.
Payment flaw was fixed on September 25, 2026
The bug sat in the XRP Ledger payment engine, which calculates amounts when transactions move through offers on the network's built-in exchange. Under specially constructed conditions, an arithmetic overflow could have caused the software to calculate an amount smaller than the actual payment. CryptoSlate reported that the theoretical exploit could have created 18 trillion XRP, while the network's original supply cap is 100 billion XRP.
RippleX and the XRP Ledger Foundation coordinated an emergency software upgrade to version 3.4.1. The same report said investigators found no evidence that the vulnerability was exploited on a public network, no unauthorized XRP was created, and no funds were lost. The patch therefore concerns a corrected network rule rather than a confirmed supply breach.
ETF outflows followed 13 weeks of inflows
U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds, which hold the cryptocurrency directly, recorded 1.84 million USD in net outflows during the week ended October 16, 2026, according to Yahoo Finance. The result ended a 13-week inflow streak. Cumulative net inflows still stood near 1.8 billion USD in mid-October.
XRP Ledger payment volume reached 119.5 million XRP on October 17, 2026, down 72.3 percent in one day and below the 30-day average of 629.3 million XRP, the same report said. A single daily reading does not establish a long-term network trend. Separately, the next scheduled protocol date is October 23, 2026, when the fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment is projected to activate if validator support remains sufficient, as Crypto.news reported.
