The WIG 20 ended Wednesday's session, November 4, at 4,190.08 points, up 1.24 percent from the previous close. The closing figure and daily move were reported by Polish Press Agency and are consistent with the closing data carried by ISBnews on Investing.com.
Large-cap benchmark recovers
The move followed a weaker previous session, when the index closed at 4,138.60 points on November 3. Wednesday's gain therefore restored some of the ground lost at the start of the week. The broader WIG index rose 1.47 percent to 158,141.27 points, while the mWIG40 gained 2.30 percent to 10,728.30 points and the sWIG80 added 0.41 percent to 29,465.46 points, according to the ISBnews closing report.
KGHM and energy shares in focus
Market leadership was concentrated in selected commodity-sensitive and state-controlled names. Business Insider Polska reported that KGHM was among the strongest WIG 20 constituents during the session, supported by higher copper, silver and gold prices. Shares of state-owned energy companies also advanced in the report's intraday account. Those observations help explain the sectoral backdrop, but do not by themselves establish that any single stock caused the index's full-day performance.
Turnover points to active session
Equity turnover on the Warsaw market amounted to PLN 2.803 billion. PKO Bank Polski generated the highest turnover at PLN 416.21 million. Across the GPW, 200 stocks rose, 122 declined and 80 were unchanged, indicating a broadly positive session rather than a gain limited to a narrow group of index heavyweights.
The close came against an international backdrop shaped by reactions to the US midterm election result and stronger Asian markets. For investors, the session showed a recovery in Polish large caps, but the next direction will still depend on commodity prices, global risk appetite and domestic political developments.
