The Tether USDt price remained close to its one-dollar target on November 4, 2026, as attention turned to Tether's response to the October 29 Binance hack. The stablecoin issuer said it froze more than 1.5 billion USDT within 30 minutes of the attack, while its latest reserve disclosure pointed to a wider buffer behind the token.
USDT remains close to the peg
Investing.com displayed USDT at 0.9988 US dollars when retrieved on November 4. The same page showed a 178.10 billion US dollar market capitalization, 57.52 billion US dollars in 24-hour volume and 178.37 billion USDT in circulating supply. Its listed 52-week range was 0.9943 to 1.0032 US dollars. The page did not provide a dated UTC closing basis for the prior day, so no UTC daily percentage comparison is stated here.
Tether's own website describes USDt as a token pegged one-to-one to the US dollar and backed by reserves. That structure makes USDT different from a conventional speculative cryptocurrency: the central investment question is generally the durability of the peg and the quality of the backing, rather than long-term token-price appreciation.
Binance response shows control risk
In a November 2 announcement, Tether said the frozen funds were linked to the Binance hack and that the FBI had attributed the attack to North Korea. Tether also said it had frozen more than 7 billion USDT in secondary-market addresses in total, with approximately 1.2 billion USDT returned to rightful owners and law enforcement through reissuance.
The intervention illustrates both sides of the USDT model. Address-level controls can help exchanges and investigators restrict the movement of allegedly stolen assets, but they also confirm that USDT is not fully permissionless in the same way as some decentralized cryptocurrencies. A freeze is not equivalent to completed recovery, and Tether's announcement did not establish that all affected funds had been returned.
Reserve buffer provides additional context
According to CoinMarketCap, Tether reported 1.5 billion US dollars in third-quarter net operating profit and 7.95 billion US dollars in excess reserves as of September 30. The report listed 191.5 billion US dollars in reserves against 183.5 billion US dollars in liabilities. These figures strengthen the reported reserve cushion, although they describe a past reporting date and do not remove operational, regulatory or counterparty risks.
For investors and crypto-market users, the current Tether USDt price therefore says less than the token's ability to maintain its peg, meet redemptions and operate under scrutiny. The latest data point to a stable market price, while the Binance episode keeps issuer discretion and compliance controls central to the risk assessment.
